Joint Replacement After Post-Traumatic Arthritis

The patient is a 49-year-old male who suffered a significant shoulder fracture 10 years ago. Over time, the joint developed post-traumatic arthritis, leading to severe pain and limited range of motion. Despite trying medications, physiotherapy, and injections, the patient continued to experience chronic discomfort. Simple activities like lifting his arm, reaching overhead, and even sleeping on the affected side became increasingly difficult.

Challenge:

The patient had significant joint deformity and scar tissue from the previous injury. Surgery required careful reconstruction to restore proper alignment and range of motion. Custom implant positioning was critical to ensure long-term stability and to prevent further complications.

Procedure:

The surgical team performed a corrective osteotomy to realign the joint, followed by the removal of damaged tissue. A customized shoulder prosthesis was implanted to replace the arthritic joint surfaces. Precision techniques were used to restore joint mechanics and ensure proper muscle and ligament function.

Outcome:

Post-surgery, the patient experienced substantial pain relief and regained approximately 90% of shoulder mobility. He was able to return to normal daily activities, including lifting and overhead movements, within three months. Follow-up assessments confirmed stable implant positioning, successful healing, and no complications.
